Shubman Gill

There are a lot of young players in the Indian team right now and all of them have enough skill and talent to take the spot in every format of the game. One of the upcoming performers for India right now is Shubman Gill. The 24-year-old batter has been enjoying his time in international cricket right now with over 3000 runs in his international career already. He is also one of the top-ranked batters in One-day cricket as well and has an average above 60. Gill’s career seems to be moving nicely and it will be a joy to watch him score big runs in the future as well.

The main issue is that Gill might have fixed his spot in the One Day format, but the other two formats still have a lot of competition. With the growing young talent India possesses, some experts want him to up his game and score runs consistently as he averages just above 30 in Tests and 26 in T20Is. Even his last few Test innings have been disappointing after moving to the number 3 spot. His T20I stats are underwhelming as well. With the T20 World Cup around the corner, it is time for the young batter from Punjab to pull up his socks.

Constructive criticism from Sanjay Manjrekar

Ex-cricketer turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has also given his views on Gill’s inconsistency in two formats saying "Shubman Gill has to keep getting runs," Manjrekar said. "If you look at his T20 performances, you know he is getting some serious competition there. Test cricket, I think, they will back him more, but the numbers have to keep coming. At the moment, Gill looks entrenched and established in the 50-over format. In the other two formats, there is work to be done, but class-wise, he is a real deal."

Manjrekar after talking about the competition further supported his point stating “He is the real deal. There is class there. Somebody who gets a 90 in his very first Test match in foreign conditions against a good attack, has to have class. Now, finally, it has come to be about delivery, right? It's about runs now. And his average at the moment is in the low 30s. He has been around for a while. The thing in India is that he has got batting competition coming through." with this statement Manjrekar has praised Gill’s talent and wants him to perform consistently so that he fixes his place in Tests and T20I’s as well.
