There are already very emotional reactions from the fans regarding this decision, who still feel Rohit should have lead the team one more time with his career in his last phase.
Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya have already had successful seasons in the IPL as player and captain. Rohit Sharma has led MI to 5 IPL titles and is one of the most successful captains in IPL. Hardik has also got a great record as captain with title in his first season and runner up in the second season. However Rohit’s long term of success still means more that Hardik’s short stint. There are a lot of experts who have given their opinion on this decision by the franchise.
Former KKR captains views
One of the cricketers to give his opinion on this issue is none other than World Cup winner and former KKR skipper Eoin Morgan. He spoke on the change of captain in an interview with Times Of India saying “ If you look at the franchise itself, they have had a very forward-thinking, logic-driven and future-proof driven style of strategy for a long time.A decision like this reinforces that the franchise always comes first." Morgan also supported his statement by praising the bold decision by MI further stating.
"You probably see this as being a tough decision that they've made hoping that the long-term benefits will see MI lifting another championship in the coming years. So, in a way, you've to admire the courage that it takes to make a decision like that because not every team would take that decision." with this statement Morgan has supported the decision saying its a long term plan made by the franchise.
