Bowlers to take 5 wickets in South Africa

India is touring South Africa for an all-format tour. The 3-match T20I series ended in a 1-1 draw. The 1st ODI was played in Johanessburg where Aiden Markram's side won the toss and elected to bat first. The Men in Blue bowlers showed a brilliant display as they bowled out the hosts for 116 runs. Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan picked nine wickets among them.

The former picked his maiden five-wicket haul in ODI cricket. He became the first Indian pacer to take a five-wicket haul against South Africa in ODI cricket. The 24-year-old pacer has faced several backlashes after his poor display with the ball against Australia and South Africa as well. The Punjab-born pacer played in the three-match One-Day International series against New Zealand in 2022. He went wicketless in both ODIs he played in Auckland and Christchurch.

All together he became the third India to pick 5 wicket haul in ODIs on South African soil. The pacer rattled South Africa's top order, dismissing Reeza Hendricks, Tony de Zorzi, and Rassie van der Dussen. Later, he picked the wickets of Heinrich Klaasen as well as all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo, who was the highest run scorer for the side as well. India won the game easily by 8 wickets with Shreyas Iyer and Sia Sudarshan scoring fifties respectively.

Who are the other bowlers on the list?

Ashish Nehra was the first bowler to pick a 5-wicket haul on South African soil during the 2003 World Cup against England. He picked 6/23 vs England in Durban and demolished the English batters with his sensational bowling display.  Yuzvendra Chahal comes second on the list as the leg spinner picked a 5 wicket haul in the 2018 tour where the wrist spinner in the second ODI match in Centurion, 2018, restricted the Proteas for 118 runs.

Arshdeep Singh is the latest to get added to the list picking 5/37 in Johannesburg, 2023. His left-arm pacer has developed the control and abilities to swing the ball to the right-handers has created problems for the batters. The Men in Blue will be playing their 2nd Odi on Tuesday and would love to seal the three-match series against the Proteas.
