Mohammed Shami has been in the form of his life in the past year, especially in the limited-overs format which wasn’t considered his stronger suit earlier. But with his phenomenal performance in the ODI World Cup where he came in at the middle of the tournament and went out as the highest-wicket taker of the tournament.

As a reward for his sensational performance in the ODI World Cup, the right-arm pacer was conferred with the prestigious Arjuna Award which is given to those who have achieved laurels for India in the sporting arena. The Bengal after his exhilarating performance in a coveted global tournament deserved the recognition he got.

But in the coming months, India awaits another World event in cricket but this will be played in the shortest format of the game and many Indian cricket fans and commentators are backing Shami to feature in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup.

Mohammed Shami last played for India in the shortest format back in the 2022 T20 World Cup against England where India lost the match by 10 wickets and suffered another heartbreak in a global event. Shami is known for his prowess in the T20 format and hasn’t been provided a fair run in this format for India in the recent past.

Shami’s betting huge on IPL for his potential T20 comeback

But given the skill set that Shami possesses and the way he has performed in the 50-over format and the IPL, he is hopeful that he could still make the comeback in the Indian T20 side. However, in a recent interview with Sports Tak, he revealed that even though he doesn’t know where he stands in terms of the T20 scheme of things he is betting hugely on the IPL that we could prove his T20 prowess in IPL 2024 which is scheduled just before the T20 World Cup.

Although India has some good bowling options in the T20 department with the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Mukesh Kumar, and with Bumrah regaining his full fitness and flow, it strengthens the Indian pace bowling attack even more but with Shami, you cannot ignore him as he has the best seam position in the world and with the current form he is in, he definitely will give the selectors a tough time while picking the T20I squad for the World Cup.
