Team India were not able to finish on a high note as they suffered a crushing 10-wicket defeat at the hands of England. The loss for India was headlined by a 170-run stand between Jos Butler and Alex Hales. This was yet another instance in which the Men in Blue made it to the semi-final but could not get their hands on the eagerly awaited World Trophy.
The start for the Men in Blue at the beginning of the 20-20 World Cup campaign was terrific as they beat their arch-rivals by four wickets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. India rode on a superb unbeaten 82 off 53 balls from Virat Kohli to get a hard-fought win against the Men in Green.
Kohli struggled to get his eye in initially and was not able to get the boundaries. They were four down for only 31 runs on the board and though Kohli and Hardik Pandya took on the spinners, the required run rate always appeared to get away from India’s grasp.
Virat Kohli played the shot off Rauf in the 19th over
When it boiled down to 28 off 8 balls, India were still nowhere in the picture and it was Pakistan’s game to win. But Kohli let the momentum change for India in the blink of an eye as he hit consecutive sixes off Harris Rauf’s last two balls.
The shot that went straight back over Rauf’s head had to be shot for the ages as Kohli manufactured the shot out of nowhere. There was not much room to play such a shot, but Kohli did so with aplomb. It was declared as one of the best shots as per the Cricket Governing Body and it will be called “The greatest single T20 shot of all time”
This was on the list of one of the top five moments in the 20-20 World Cup. This is what the Cricket Governing Body had to say about the shot “given the match situation, it was extraordinary; arguably the greatest single T20 shot of all time,” said the Cricket Governing Body.
