India booked their ticket to the Oval for the World Test Championship final after New Zealand's thrilling win over Sri Lanka in the first Test in Christchurch. Although the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia ended in a draw, Kiwis denied Sri Lanka a place in the WTC final in a nail-biting finish, which also secured India's berth. The battle between Rohit Sharma-led India and Pat Cummins-led Australia will continue from June 7, as both teams will lock horns to clinch the title in the longer format.

Following India's win in the fourth Test in Ahmedabad, Indian captain Rohit Sharma hinted that the team will focus on preparing for the Test Championship even though the players will participate in the upcoming edition of the Indian T20 League starting on March 31. Rohit said that the team management will monitor the workload of the players who are part of the ITL 2023 and try to send them to the UK as soon as they complete their franchise duties.

It's quite critical for us: Rohit Sharma

In the post-match press conference, the India opening batter said: "It's quite critical for us. We are going to keep in constant touch with all the players who are going to play that final and monitor their workload and see what's happening with them.

"Around 21st May, there will be six teams who will be possibly out of IPL play-off contention and so whichever players are available, we will try and find time to get them to UK early as possible and get some time and we will monitor as much as possible."

The skipper further said that squad selection for the WTC final will not be a big problem as there will not be many changes to the team that played in this BGT.

"Guys who will be part of finals are not the guys who have not played in the UK. Maybe there could be one or two guys here and there and rest all of us have played in that part of the world. I don't think it will be a huge problem," Rohit said.
