The 2nd T20I between India and New Zealand kicked off at Mount Maunganui. The 1st T20 between the two sides was washed out. New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl. India got the first bat and got off to a good start, with a new opening combination in Ishaan Kishan and Rishabh Pant.
Pant fell early to Lockie Ferguson, but Kishan got a quickfire cameo of 36 off 31 balls, with five fours and 1 six. Then, Suryakumar Yadav came in at number three and took centre stage at Mount Maunganui. He blazed away and played shots all around the ground. He toyed with the bowling en route to his splendid innings of 111 off just 51 balls.
The scintillating knock contained 11 fours and 7 sixes. This knock allowed India to get to a total of 191-6 in their 20 overs. New Zealand also had a moment to savour as Tim Southee picked up a hattrick. He got the three wickets in the last over of the innings. Hardik Pandya, Deepak Hooda and Washington Sundar were his three victims.
In the second innings, India started on the right note with the ball as Finn Allen was dismissed off his second ball by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Devon Conway played some delectable shots in his quick-fire 25 off 22 balls, which had three boundaries until he was dismissed by Washington Sundar.
Kane Willamson came in at Number 3 and played some gorgeous strokes to get to 61 off 52 balls, with four fours and two sixes before he was dismissed by Siraj. While he held on to one end, wickets kept falling at the other. Yuzvendra Chahal picked up 2-26 in his four overs. and Daryl Mitchell was scalped by Deepak Hooda. He picked up three more wickets to end up on 4-10 in his spell of 2.5 overs. Mohammed Siraj also picked up 2-24 in his four overs. In the end, India won by a comprehensive margin of 65 runs.
