Indian Lawn Bowls women’s fours team scripted history by winning a gold for India at the Commonwealth Games 2022. The women’s brigade, comprising Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Nayanmoni Saikia and Rupa Rani Tirkey, joined hands to script the record. Lawn Bowls is a sport that is not very familiar in India and the time has come for everyone to talk about it.

The four women who won it for India come from diverse backgrounds. While everyone might expect them to have a sports background, there is something more to it. The team comprises a physical education teacher, an Assam Forest officer, a cop from the Jharkhand police department, and a district sports officer from Jharkhand.

Let’s have a look at the team:

Lovely Choubey – (age: 42):

Hailing from Ranchi, Jharkhand, Lovely Choubey is a cop from the Jharkhand police department. Lovely Choubey represented India for a third time at the Commonwealth Games this year. Ranchi is her hometown and she is coached by Madhukant Pathak. She took part in the Pairs and Fours event alongside Pinki, Saikia and Tirkey. She is a three-time gold medallist in the Asian Championships. Pinki is also a diploma holder from the Sports Authority of India, Patiala. She started playing the sport in the year 2007. She hails from Delhi.

Nayanmoni Saikia – (age: 33):

Nayanmoni Saikia hails from Golaghat, Assam. She started her sporting career as a weightlifter until an injury ruled her out of the sport. Saikia works for the Assam Forest Department since 2011. Nayanmoni Saikia has two gold medals in Lawn Bowls from Asian Championships.

Rupa Rani Tirkey – (age: 34):
