Commonwealth games 2022 is nearing its end and the Indian contingent are trying hard to bag more medals on the final day of the event. India have bagged a total of fifty-six medals, at the time of writing. Amidst that, Indian star shuttler PV Sindhu created history after defeating Michelle Li of Canada in the gold medal match of women's Badminton singles. She won the match with a 21-15, 21-13 lead.
PV Sindhu’s match was one of the most anticipated and awaited ones of the day. The young shuttler was all fired up and managed to bag the first game of the finals with a 21-15 lead. Sindhu started leading straight away with three points until Michelle Li bounced back and made it 4-4 in no time. The star Indian shuttler faced a few troubles with her left leg as the game progressed.
The first game was a tight one and at the mid-game break, Sindhu took a 11-8 lead. She progressed further and managed to gain a 16-10 lead quickly. Indian shuttler went on to win the first game 21-15.
The stadium erupted with joy right away and Sindhu looked brutal in the second game. She took a 4-2 lead pretty quickly and there was no turning back from there on. The 27-year-old carried on further and took a 9-3 lead. Michelle Li managed to bounce back and made it 11-6.
Michelle Li did give a tough fight back as she was trailing by only 3 points once at 14-11. The Hyderabad-born shuttler, however, smashed a barrage of powerful shots all across the court and won the second game 21-13.
PV Sindhu is regarded as one of the best in the modern-day game. The 27-year-old has been making India proud for many years now. She won a silver in the 2016 Olympics and managed to bag a bronze in the 2020 Olympics.
Sindhu won a silver medal in the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. The fierce shuttler also won a bronze medal in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games in the singles event. PV Sindhu’s Gold enthralled every Indian’s heart with pride. They stood up once again as the Indian national anthem echoed in and around the stadium.
