Commonwealth Games 2022: Jeremy Lalrinnunga wins second gold for India

India bags its second gold at the Commonwealth Games 2022 and once again from the weightlifting category. India has five medals to its tally now and all have come in weightlifting events. Mirabai Chanu won the first gold for India at the Commonwealth Games 2022. Bindyarani Devi and Sankat Sargar bagged silver, while Gururaja bagged bronze for India.

India has received the fifth medal and it’s a gold this time. The Indian contingent is proving its worth and the medals are flowing in. Australia currently tops the medal tally with thirty two medals.

Jeremy Lalrinnunga shines at Birmingham

19 year old, Jeremy Lalrinnunga outclassed others to win gold for India. He injured himself while going for gold. However, he did mange to win it for India. In the men’s 67 kg weightlifting final, Lalrinnunga made a Commonwealth Games record. Jeremy Lalrinnunga holds the three National Records to his name. He holds the National Record for snatch 141 kg, clean and jerk 167 kg, and total 306 kg – in the 67 kg category.

Jeremy Lalrinnunga was one of three Indian athletes to win a gold at 2018 Youth Olympics by lifting a total of 274 kg. He bagged the gold at the 2018 Youth Olympics when he was just 16. He also bagged gold medal at the 2021 Commonwealth Championships in Tashkent.

Lalrinnunga lifted a record 305 kg ahead of Nigeria’s Joseph Edidiong and snatched the gold for India. This was enough for him to qualify for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Birmingham. Jeremy Lalrinnunga has been battling injuries for a long time now.

The athlete has addressed the issue but injured himself while going for gold in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Although the star athlete looked comfortable during the Medal Ceremony, we’ll have to wait until we get a complete update on him.

The athlete has been training in Birmingham for over a month and he has reaped the benefits. Indian flag was raised high in the centre for the second time in the Commonwealth Games this year. Every Indian’s heart swells with pride each time the national anthem is played.
