The Indian contingent is making the final approach to the Commonwealth Games 2022. India has won 26 medals so far. And that includes nine gold, eight silver and nine bronze. Only two days are left in the multi-sport event and most events are approaching the end game.
The Australian contingent has been fantastic so far. With over a hundred and forty medals, the Australian flag is flying high amidst all nations. India will look to capitalize on what is left and add more medals before the conclusion of the Commonwealth Games 2022.
Here's how day 8 turned out to be for India:
Hockey:
The women's hockey team lost to Australia 0-3 in the penalties. After what was a heart-wrecking match, India will play New Zealand in the bronze medal match. The women will look to make a strong comeback for the bronze.
Squash:
In the mixed doubles quarter-finals, India's Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghosal locked horns with Australia's Racahel Grinham and Zac Alexander. The Indian mixed pair won the match against Australia and marched into the semi-finals. Velavan Senthil Kumar and Abhay Singh won against Douglas Kempsell and Alan Clyne in the men's doubles event and have qualified for the quarter-finals.
Athletics:
Hima Das managed to finish the race in 23.42 seconds but fell short of qualifying for the finals.
Badminton:
P V Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen made an easy win as they qualified for the semi-finals in the singles event.
Lawn Bowls:
India men's lawn bowls fours team have stormed into the finals of the event. They have assured India of another medal in Lawn Bowls with this historic win in the semi-finals.
Wrestling:
Deepak Punia, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia scripted history once agains as they won gold for India. Anshu Malik bagged a silver medal for India while Divya Kakran and Mohit Grewal won bronze medals for India respectively. India won a total of six medals in the Commonwealth Games yesterday and all have come from the wrestling category.
Table Tennis:
Achanta Sharath Kamal made it to the semi-finals in all three events. He beat Olajide Omotayo in the single's event. Kamal also made it to the semi-finals of mixed event and men's doubles event as well.
