The Indian contingent at the Commonwealth Games 2022 has exceeded expectations. The medals have kept coming and they have won 20 medals so far. India ranks seventh in the medal tally. Australia tops the list with more than a hundred medals. Yesterday was another great day for India, as some of the athletes managed to get closer to winning a medal.

Murali Sreeshankar bagged a silver in the long jump event. Jasmine Lamboria and a few more boxers have qualified for the next day promising India more medals.

Here’s how day 7 fared out for India at the Commonwealth Games 2022:

Boxing:

Amit Panghal, Jasmine Lamboria, Rohit Tokas and Sagar Ahalwat have all qualified for the semi-finals. They have guaranteed India more medals to add to the tally.

Squash:
Dipika Pallikal – Saurav Ghosal marched on to the quarterfinals. In the women’s pairs, Anahat –Sunayna crashed out of the event while Dipika Pallikal – Joshna Chinappa reached the quarter-finals. Joshna Chinappa – Harinder Sandhu crashed out in the round of 16. In the case of men’s pairs, Abhay – Velavan made it to the next round.

Badminton:
Indian stars PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth progressed to the next level, the round of 16. Mixed pairs Ashwini Ponnappa and B Sumeeth Reddy lost their opening match.

Athletics:
Murali Sreeshankar was the hero of Day 7 for India as he secured the silver medal in the long jump. He is the second athlete to win a medal for India in athletics after Tejaswin Shankar. Hima Das qualified for the semi-finals as she finished her 200m heat event with a timing of 23:42.

Table Tennis:
Manika Batra won her opening match and looks in great form. Sanil Shetty - Harmeet Desai and Sharath Kamal – Sathiyan Gnanasekaran have progressed to the next stage. In mixed pairs, Manika Batra – Sathiyan Gnanasekaran qualified for the successive round.

Para Powerlifting:
Sudhir won the gold medal for India in para powerlifting. He won the gold medal in the men's heavyweight category final at Commonwealth Games 2022.
