Commonwealth Games 2022 Day 1 started off with a bang. The Indian contingent outclassed so many players from other countries. Indian players were on fire and set ablaze the tone for further impacts. As other players brace for impact, let's have a look at the performance of Indian players from Day 1.
Boxing:
Shiva Thapa defeated Baloch Suleman in the first match of 63.5 kg men's boxing (5:0, Unanimous decision). The boxing champion weighed in hard on his strengths and was all over Baloch Suleman. The latter surrendered not withstanding Shiva Thapa. A roaring win for India.
Swimming:
Sajan Prakash (50m butterfly) missed out on his opportunity to qualify for the semi-finals. And Kushagra Rawat (400 m freestyle) missed out on the finals. Srihari Nataraj stormed into the semifinal of 100m backstrokes. Para-swimmer Ashish Kumar finished 8th in the men's 100m backstrokes S9 final.
Cricket:
Renuka Singh Thakur's brilliant spell went in vain as the Indian team failed to contain the Australian foray. Australia women won by three wickets.
Hockey:
The women's team started with a stupendous performance over Ghana (ranked 30th), defeating Ghana 5-0.
Badminton:
It was the Indian flag all over. The Indian team outclassed the Pakistan team to win the mixed team event.
Cycling:
Team India finished 7 in the qualification round with a timing of 51.433 for the Women's team sprint. They ended up failing to qualify for the semi-finals.
The men's pursuit team ended up last in the qualification round with a timing of 4:12.865. In the men's team sprint, India finished 6th in the qualification round and failed to make it to the semi-finals.
Table Tennis:
India women's team won their first two group matches. They won their first match against South Africa 3-0 and the second match against Fiji 3-0. India men's team won their first group match against Barbados 3-0. India's men's team beat Singapore 3-0 in the second group stage match and reached the quarterfinals.
Triathlon:
Adarsh finished 30th and Vishwanath finished 33rd in the men's category TV. In the women's category, Pragnya finished 26th and Sanjana finished 28th, respectively.
Lawn Bowls:
Tania lost her first match in women's single against Daphne from the Falkland Islands with a score of 20-21. India lost to Scotland in the men's triple sectional play with a score of 12-19 in the men's category.
