In an interesting development, the Selection Committee, which is presently headed by Chetan Sharma, will select two limited-over squads for the series against Sri Lanka that will take place in India. It is scheduled to begin on January 3, and a new selection committee will only be picked after a week after the conclusion of the series.

The interviews for the new selection committee members are slated to take place from December 26 to December 28. They will be appointed by the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee. The T20 squad in all probability will consist of lesser-known names and the senior players will be given a break from the T20 format in the Sri Lanka series.

"The old committee will probably select the Sri Lanka white ball squad," an Indian Cricket Board source who knew of the development was quoted as saying. "As of now, it doesn't look like Rohit Sharma's finger will heal enough before the T20Is and in that case, Hardik will lead the side. As far as KL Rahul is concerned, his T20I days seem to be numbered."

The Chetan Sharma-led selection committee were sacked just after India’s 20-20 World Cup debacle in Australia. As of now, the lookout for new selectors is still taking place and they are not yet been appointed.

Venkatesh Prasad and Nayan Mongia have applied for selectors post

"Chetan and his committee are still watching domestic cricket. They watched the full Vijay Hazare Trophy and also the first two rounds of Ranji Trophy. Debasish Mohanty was present at Eden Gardens to watch Bengal vs Himachal Pradesh. Basically, they got a two-month extension till December 25," the official said.

When it comes to the people who have applied for the positions of the New selectors, they are the likes of Maninder Singh, Nayan Mongia, Amay Khurasia, Maninder Singh, Nikhil Chopra, Gyanender Pandey, Mukund Parmar, Atul Wassan and Venkatesh Prasad in the fray.

India have been on a downward spiral since the 20-20 World Cup in Australia. They narrowly won the T20 series 1-0. Then they lost the ODI series 1-0, and after that, they lost the ODI series against Bangladesh 2-1. There have been a lot of questions regarding India’s composition of the playing XI and the side in general.
