India ended their 20-20 World Cup 2022 campaign on a disastrous note as they came crashing down against England in the semi-final. They were able to score just 168-6 batting first and then were blown away due to a record 170-run opening stand between Alex Hales and Jason Roy who tore the Indian bowling attack to shreds and chased the target of 169 in 16 overs.
Immediately after the hammering at the 20-20 World Cup that led to a shock semi-final exit, this resulted in the sacking of the four-member selection panel which consisted of Chairman Chetan Sharma, Sunil Joshi, Harvinder Singh and Debashish Mohanty. The current lot have served for a very short tenure as Indian selectors.
More than 60 applicats have applied for the post
In what can be called big news, the now-sacked chairman of the Indian selection committee, Chetan Sharma has reapplied for the role of India selector. Along with him, Harvinder Singh has also reapplied for the role. According to a report by the Indian Express, more than 60 applicants have thrown their hats in the ring for the post.
The report further went on to say that Joshi and Mohanty have not reapplied for the role of selectors. The Indian Cricket Board have put out the rules and regulations to be kept in mind while applying for the role. There are five open positions. It is mandatory for the applicant to have played 7 tests or 30 first-class matches or 20 ODIs or 10 first-class matches and should have retired from the game five years back.
“No person who has been a member of any Cricket Committee (as defined in the rules and regulations of Indian Cricket Board) for a total of 5 years shall be eligible to be a member of Men’s Selection Committee,” The Indian Cricket Board stated. The job description has two points which were not mentioned earlier.
One is to prepare and submit an evaluation of the particular team’s performance to the Apex Council every quarter and also a separate captain for each format is to be appointed. The second point is that the chairman would have to address the media concerning queries on the Indian Team.
