The Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side in Indian T20 League 2021 had a season to forget as they finished in 9th position with only eight points to their name where they had four wins to show and 10 losses. This was their second-worst season in the League.

They had a similar tale of woe in the 2020 season where they finished 7th on the points table with twelve points to their name and had 6 wins to show as compared to the eight losses that they suffered. The Yellove Army will look to get back to winning ways in the upcoming 2023 edition of the Indian T20 League.

In the 2022 season, A leadership change was made in the Chennai camp which came as a surprise to many as Ravindra Jadeja was entrusted with the role of leading the side but it did not pan out according to expectations and halfway through the tournament, the baton was handed back to Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Dhoni's best cricket is behind him- Harbhajan Singh

Here is what Harbhajan Singh had to say about Chennai heading into the 2023 season, “They have a lot of work to do. Dhoni's best cricket is behind him as well. Yes, he is the best captain today also. If you make him stand as a captain, you will not get that value from any other captain. You will have to find an option for him as well, who can come along with Dhoni who can take the team forward. There were some issues with Ravindra Jadeja, we don't know what happened there,”

Harbhajan pointed out that the main issue that Chennai will have to look into is their middle order which will need to be sorted out in the upcoming Indian T20 League auction, this is what he had to say regarding this, "Ravindra Jadeja will definitely come back but we saw that they don't have batting at the top and the finisher's spot, the role which Bravo and Dhoni used to perform, is also looking empty," Harbhajan added.
