A clinical performance by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bowlers led them to a massive 112-run win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday. RR batters crumbled in a 172-run chase and were bowled out for 59 runs in 10.3 overs. The win is a major lift for RCB as the move them up to fifth in the points table, keeping their playoff chances alive, while the doors are nearly shut for RR.

Opting to bat first on a surface that favours the defending side, RCB posted a competitive score of 171-5 on the back of half-centuries from captain Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell and a quick-fire knock from Anuj Rawat. But with destructive batters in the team, who would have thought that the home team would crumble for a mere score. The onslaught started when Mohammed Siraj picked the wicket of in-form batter Yashasvi Jaiswal in the very first over.

Then Wayne Parnell joined the action and removed Jos Buttler and skipper Sanju Samson in the second over. The game was dusted right there for RR as their top three returned to the hut without making much of an impact on the scoreboard. RCB bowlers continued the attack and sent back half of their side inside the powerplay. Shimron Hetmyer hit a couple of boundaries to score 19-ball 35, but the target was miles away, and the West Indies batter was eventually removed, further putting his team in peril.

RCB had a great chance to hand Royals the record for the lowest score in the IPL (48), but Hetmyer's three consecutive sixes off Karn Sharma's over saved them from further embarrassment. However, after the left-hander's wicket, the visitors were left with only formalities to wrap up the innings. Karn took two wickets in the 11th over to end the game.

Earlier, Virat Kohli and du Plessis put on a 50-run partnership before the former's sluggish innings came to an end in the last ball of the seventh over. Maxwell and Faf formed a respectable second-wicket partnership as the latter brought up his seventh half-century of the season. However, his strike rate of 125 did not hurt the opponent much and Maxwell had to make up for that.Β They lost couple of more wickets in the middle, but Maxi's 54 off 33 balls and Rawat's 29 off 11 balls helped them cross 170.
