There was an injury scare in the ongoing Lanka Premier League for star Sri Lanka all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne as he lost four of his teeth while taking a catch in the tournament. The freak injury took place in Match 4 of the LPL 2022 between Galle Gladiators and Kandy Falcons which was being played at Hambantota.

Karunaratne was fielding at covers when he took the catch off Carlos Brathwaite’s bowling. However, while doing so, he suffered a big blow on his face and began bleeding heavily losing four teeth, the Sri Lankan national paper Daily Mirror reported.

The story was confirmed by Karunaratne through an Instagram post, who shared the update on the injury with his fans and wrote, “Lost 4 teeth, got them back, got 30 stitches and I can still smile a little. I will be back stronger than ever with a smile in Pallekele! See you soon!”. After receiving the blow on his face, the all-rounder went to the hospital for surgery and hence did not play any part in the game against the Falcons.

Here is the post -

Kandy Falcons won the game in 15 overs

In a low-scoring encounter, Brathwaite starred with the ball for the Falcons by picking up 4-14 in his four overs which helped the Falcons restrict the Gladiators to just 121-8 in their 20 overs. It was an easy run chase for the Falcons as Kamindu Mendis scored a vital 44 off 34 balls which guided the Falcons through the chase. They chased down the target of 122 in just 15 overs.

Karunaratne was handed a one-year ban from Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) last month. This happened after it was found out that he violated several clauses of the player's agreement which happened in the 20-20 World Cup in Australia. This led to him being part of the Abu Dhabi T10 League recently. He has been an impact player for the Lankan Lions over the years with bat and ball and has also played a lot of franchise cricket.
