India beat Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023 finals of the Men’s hockey 5-a-side team in a penalty shootout. After the final whistle, both sides scores were locked at 4-4. It is pertinent to mention that, after this win, Team India has booked their place in the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2024. 

Pakistan led 3-2 at half-time, but the Men in Blue managed to come back and level the score at 4-4 before the full-time whistle. In the shootout, Maninder Singh and Gurjot Singh scored for India while Team India goalkeeper Suraj Karkera saved the attempts from both players from Pakistan, Arshad Liaqat and Muhammad Murtaza. 

In the regulation time for India, Mohammad Raheel scored two goals, in the 19th and 26th minute, while Jugraj Singh opened the account in the seventh minute of the game followed by Maninder Singh in the 10th minute. Maninder also scored one goal in the penalty shootout while Gurjot Sigh accompanied him in that.

For Pakistan, Abdul Rehman started the proceedings with a goal in the 5th minute of the game, followed by the skipper Abdul Rana in the 13th minute, then Zikriya Hayat and Arshad Liaqat shots on the target in the 14th and 19th minute, respectively. Speaking of the other Indian vs Pakistan game on the same day, it was the third cricket match in Asia Cup 2023, which was washed out after the first innings played by the Rohit Sharma-led side.

In the cricket game, Team India won the toss and batted first. India, after the early blows by Pakistan bowlers, recovered well and posted a total of 266/10 in 48.5 overs in the Asia Cup 2023. The Men in Blue's chances of getting a good score were shattered after their top-order batters departed within the 15 overs of the game, but with Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya's 82 and 87 run mark, they posted the contested total.
