Sunrisers Eastern Cape scripted history on Sunday as they won the inaugural edition of the SA20, South Africa's Premier T20 League, beating Pretoria Capitals in the final played at the Wanderers Stadium. Roelof van der Merwe was adjudged the man of the match in a relatively low-scoring T20 encounter.

After winning the toss and forcing the Capitals to bat first, the Sunrises did a decent job bundling the batting side out within 20 overs with a comfortable total of 135 on the board. With 21 off 19, Kushal Mendis remained the highest scorer for the Capitals and their only batter to get past the 20-run mark. Van der Merwe was the pick of the bowlers for his exceptional spell that included four scalps while giving away 31 runs.

Adam Rossington smashed a quick-fire fifty in the Sunrisers' chase

In reply, the Sunrisers cruised to the target within 17 overs, thanks to a 57-run knock off 30 balls from Adam Rossington. He was further helped by handsome contributions from middle-order batter Jordan Hermann and skipper Aiden Markram to get the Sunrisers over the finish line. Anrich Nortje remained the pick of the bowlers for the Capitals with two scalps for 21 runs in four overs.

Aiden Markram, the skipper of the Sunrisers, was adjudged the player of the tournament.

'I believed in myself, feels good that I could contribute with both bat and ball. Everyone on the team was really good, and all contributed. The fans have been amazing', the 28-year-old said post-game.

Eathan Bosch was adjudged the Rising Star of the SA20 tournament.

"It feels great to play with the big guns, and they were confident as they had the momentum by their side. I would like to thank the crowd for always supporting me." he said upon receiving the award.

"It's good to win the finals and feels good to give the best for my team. Many new talents got a chance in this tournament", said Van der Merwe.
