The Indian cricket skipper Rohit Sharma was beaming with delight on Tuesday. This was after his side became the first team to qualify for the finals of the Asia Cup 2023 on Sunday. The 36-year-old has been facing a lot of questions in recent times. Rohit Sharma now has the chance to win India its 8th Asia Cup title and his 2nd as a captain.

It was an important win for India as they beat Sri Lanka by 41 runs. With the ODI World Cup around the corner, the form in the Asia Cup will be crucial for the Indian team. Rohit Sharma in particular was under pressure as he failed to deliver silverware for India. Indian skipper won his 8th match as captain in the Asia Cup tournament. The 36-year-old has now moved to third in the table behind MS Dhoni and Arjuna Ranatunga as far as success as captains are concerned.

Rohit Sharma’s dream run in Asia Cup continues –

MS Dhoni has won 9 games from 14 games captained with 4 four losses and one tied game with a success rate of 64. MS Dhoni also won the title twice in 2010 in the fifty-over format and in 2016 in the T20 format. Arjuna Ranatunga the former Sri Lanka skipper captained in 13 games winning 9 and losing four. The former Sri Lanka legend had a winning percentage of 69.2 as he led Sri Lanka to the 1997 Asia Cup title win.

Rohit Sharma has led India in 9 games and won 8 with one game being washed out. The game in question was against Pakistan at Pallekele which was washed out due to rain. The right-handed opener has a win percentage of 88 and won the title in 2018. The Indian team had won all five games under Rohit’s captaincy in 2018 including the final against Bangladesh.

Interestingly, Moin Khan the former Pakistan captain has a 100 percent record having won all his 6 games as captain. Misbah–Ul–Haq has a 70% success rate with 7 wins from 10 games. Inzamam Ul Haq and Marvan Attapattu both have 4 wins from 5 games with an 80% success rate.

Former India skipper Mohammad Azharuddin and former Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews were tied in their record. Both the players led their teams 7 times winning five and losing 2 with a success rate of 71.4. Mahela Jayawardene was the least successful skipper with a 60% success rate as he won 6 Asia Cup games out of 10.
