Bayern Munich kicked off their pre-season campaign with an emphatic 27-0 win over local side FC Rottach-Egern in a friendly match on Tuesday, July 18. The Bundesliga champions dominated from start to finish, with 13 of their players finding the net and four of them bagging hat-tricks. Sadio Mané finished off the fireworks in the final minute, which were initiated by Jamal Musiala in the third minute.
Bayern fielded two different XIs for the match, with the starting line-up consisting of regular first-team players. Serge Gnabry scored three goals and Musiala and young forward Mathys Tel scored five each as the German giants raced into a 18-0 lead before the half-time break.
The second half saw a different side, with Sadio Mane, Marcel Sabitzer, Leon Goretzka, Kingsley Coman and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting coming on. Sabitzer did not waste any time in extending the lead, scoring the 19th goal in the 50th minute. The midfielder then scored two more goals in 16 minutes to complete his hat-trick and eventually his five-goal haul.
Bayern's new signing, Raphael Guerreiro, also contributed to their massive win, scoring in his first game since joining from Borussia Dortmund. The 27-goal victory topped the club's last meeting with Rottach-Egern in 2019, where they won 23-0. The latest victory is an indication of their strength against opponents in the upcoming season.
