Bangalore finally broke the jinx as they registered their maiden win in the Women’s T20 League with a five-wicket win over UP at the DY Patil Sports Academy on Wednesday, March 15. After losing their first five matches in a row, a win against the Lucknow-based franchise was crucial for Smriti Mandhana's side to keep their playoff hopes alive. However, their qualification for the WTL 2023 eliminators is still not confirmed as a lot should be going in their favour.
Bangalore’s batting and bowling have not been at their best so far in the tournament. Their skipper has not had a good outing so far in the tournament as she managed to score just 88 runs in six matches. All of Bangalore's losses were by huge margins, giving them a poor net run rate of -1.550. The Karnataka-based franchise started their ITL 2023 campaign with a 60-run defeat against Delhi and, in the next match too, suffered a massive 9-wicket loss against Mumbai.
Chasing 202 against Gujarat, Mandhana’s team had little hope of winning in their third match, but the fate was the same as in the first two matches as they lost the game by 11 runs. Bangalore’s batters crumbled for 138 runs against UP bowlers, resulting in their fourth loss. They slumped to their fifth straight defeat after losing to Delhi for the second time this season.
Bangalore's qualification scenario
The Women in Red have finally ended their wait for a first win and need to win the remaining two matches to keep them in contention to enter the next level. They will next face Sneh Rana-led Gujarat on Saturday, March 18. Their final group stage game is against the dominant Mumbai on Tuesday, March 21.
Bengaluru will have to rely on other teams as well to qualify for the eliminators. They will have to support Mumbai and Delhi to win their upcoming matches against UP. Their fate also will depend on the Gujarat vs UP clash, as a win for the Lucknow franchise will oust the Bangalore franchise.
Let's see how the fans reacted to Bangalore's calculation struggle:

I hope RCB qualifies but it looks pretty difficult after today's GGT win. 1 loss will cost RCB this tournament. 😐
