Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun, the famous Indian pair have done it at the BWF World Championships. Amid huge expectations, the duo have beaten Denmark pair, Kim Astrup and Anders Rasmussen. After defeating Supak Jomkoh and Kittinupong Kedren in a thriller first round, the duo roared in the second round.
The world no 35 pair took on the eighth seeds and won it within 40 minutes in what was a one-sided affair. This victory has given them the gate-pass to the pre-quarters of the event ongoing in Tokyo, Japan. The pair of Kapila-Arjun doesn't have good memories of competing in the decider as they've always failed at big games. However, they will look to turn the events this time around and script history by breaking the myth.
They have won the second round of the BWF World Championships with a 21-17, 21-16 lead against the eighth seeds. Kapila-Arjun duo will face Hee Yong Kai Terry and Loh Kean Hean of Singapore in their next outing. The duo have had tough times together and achieving the glory won't be an easy feat.
It was my duty to help him as coach: Vijaydeep Singh
The duo's coach Vijaydeep Singh earlier said to Indian Express that he had to help Dhruv Kapila on all occasions. He recalled the youngster's passion for badminton and said that he missed his home once he shifted to Hyderabad from Ludhiana.
“Food, medicines, doctor, homesickness, it was my duty to help him as coach," the coach said. The duo were brought together in 2016 and there was no turning back thereafter. Vijaydeep Singh recalled the duo's childhood and was happy to hint at their personal lives. He said that the pair worked hard together and it was always fun to be around them.
"They both speak good Telugu. Arjun talks a lot of Hindi. And me and Pranaav Jerry Chopra were around for the Punjabi touch when Dhruv was young,” Singh recalled. The coach revealed the reason for their failures in deciders despite taking the lead initially.
"Sometimes, they take it easy when leading and the mind goes blank as continuous mistakes happen," he concluded. The pair will look to carry on the momentum for India and make it big with the opportunity that they have at present.
