The 2023 Asia Cup game between India and Pakistan saw rain interrupt proceedings. India was placed at 147/2 in 24.1 overs with KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. Despite the rain stopping for nearly the game never got underway. There was a chance for the game to start at 9 PM local time but a new set of showers put paid to the hopes of a restart.

There was rain predicted for the day as it was speculated to be the run-up of the India versus Pakistan game. The Asian Cricket Body had already set aside a reserve day for the game much to the chagrin of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The game is set to restart on Monday and the latest set of weather reports has been anticipated by fans.

A bright start to the day at Colombo brings hope for fans

There was rain overnight in Colombo and the downpour finally relented on early Monday morning. The sun finally made an appearance as blue skies took over. This has now given the fans a new set of hope of finally watching an entire game.

The last time the two teams played against each other at Pallekele saw the match rained out. Both the teams were awarded a point each as Pakistan made it to the Super Four Stage. India versus Nepal also saw rain play a part for a significant portion of the game as India chases down a revised target.

Babar Azam had won the toss on Sunday and inserted India into bat. Mohammad Shami made way for Jasprit Bumrah who was back in the XI. KL Rahul came in for an injured Shreyas Iyer who had back spasms.

India got off to a rocking start as Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma added 121 for the first wicket. The Indian skipper began the assault with a six against Shaheen Afridi in the first over. This was followed by Shubman Gill attacking the Pakistani bowlers after getting a life early on.

Shubman Gill reached his half–century number 8 in ODI cricket with a single. Rohit Sharma then scored his 50th ODI fifty as he went berserk against Shadab Khan. The stand was broken when Faheem Ashraf took a stumbling catch to dismiss Rohit Sharma for 56. Shaheen Afridi came into the attack and got Gill out for 58 with a slower ball. When play was stopped Virat Kohli was batting on along with KL Rahul who was on 17.
