On multiple occasions, we have seen Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni take India over the line. On a few occasions, these two players individually won the games for India whereas there have been instances where both joined forces to win the game for India.

Despite being good friends for a long time on the international circuit, the relationship between Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni was not as smooth as people saw. Some of the starting comments by Yuvraj Singh's father spoiled the bromance that Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni had.

Amidst all these differences, no one can forget the way these two won the games for the country. Reminiscing the past, the former Sri Lankan player Russell Arnold spoke highly about both Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni.

In the same interview, he went on to mention the difference between the characteristics of the player on the field. In a conversation with WV Raman, Russell Arnold said:

"He could play both roles, there are very few who could do that. Both roles meaning, when he needed to absorb pressure, he could do it. That was my strength but I could hit a boundary now or then but not 15 runs an over consistently. You give me eight to 10 (runs to score in an over), I'll back myself. But Dhoni would back himself with 15 or 20 an over and hit those big sixes consistently," Arnold said in a conversation with former India batter WV Raman.

Russell Arnold praised MS Dhoni for his ability to bat along the spectrum with any batter. The former Sri Lankan skipper mentioned that MS Dhoni mastered the art of batting in both chaotic situations by absorbing pressure and finishing the innings by throwing a few blows at the opposition. Russell Arnold, on the other hand, stated that Yuvraj Singh's best came when he was flamboyant and had limited capability to absorb the pressure in the games.

Yuvraj had to be the boss to be extravagant and express himself. That is when he was at his best. But Dhoni was at his best at both ends of the line. He could be defensive and absorb pressure and throw those punches as well. Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni retired from international cricket in June 2019 and August 2020 respectively. However, MS Dhoni will be featuring in the Indian T20 League 2023.
