Breaking! Television and digital media rights for Indian T20 League sold after long auction!

The auction was for the media rights for the upcoming five-year cycle which will start from the next year 2023 to 2027.

Indian T20 League 2022 witnessed a successful tournament with a new winner in the form of new entrants of this season Gujarat . The league’s popularity throughout the world can not be denied either in any terms. Recently, there has been an auction held for the media rights of this prestigious T20 League.

The bidding included the likes of India’s top-seeded broadcasters in the sports area. The auction was for the media rights for the upcoming five-year cycle which will start from the next year 2023 to 2027. After a long round of bidding, the TV and digital rights of the league have been grabbed by two different broadcasters.

Sony grabbed the Television rights for next five years

As per the reports, the Package A of TV rights and Package B of Digital rights got measured at a massive amount of INR 44,075 crores. This includes the valuation of every match in the league. The cost is calculated at INR 100 crores, this is what with which Indian sports circuit is not familiar with.

Reportedly, the cost for the broadcast of a single match of the league is INR 107.5 crores. It has been confirmed by the sources that this auction was held for a deal of a total of 410 matches of the India T20 league for the next five years.

The television rights ended up being sold at INR 23,575 crores. On the contrary, the rights for the Digital Broadcast went on to be sold at a humongous amount of INR 20,500 crores.

Eventually, the Television rights of the league were grabbed by the Sony Pictures

Network while the Digital rights have been sold to the Jio and Disney+ Hotstar.

In the season of 2022, the tournament was played with an extended number of ten teams having two new entrants Gujarat and Lucknow. Finally, Hardik Pandya-led Titans outplayed the Rajasthan Royals in the final to clinch the trophy in their debut season.
