In big breaking news, Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the 20-20 World Cup next month in Australia. Bumrah was benched in the first T20I against South Africa at Tiruvananthpuram after he complained of back pain during India’s practice session on Tuesday. According to reports, the seamer is suffering from a stress fracture as he didn’t even travel with the team to Thiruvananthapuram for the first T20I.

An Indian Cricket Board official told PTI that Bumrah has a stress fracture and could be out of action for months.

“Bumrah is not going to play the World T20 for sure. He has a serious back condition. It’s a stress fracture and he could be out for a period of six months," a senior Indian Cricket Board official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

No surgery will be required but Bumrah is expected to take time of 4-6 months to recover from the injury. The Indian Cricket Board is yet to give an update on Bumrah’s fitness.

Yesterday, as soon as captain Rohit Sharma made the announcement that Bumrah was not in the playing XI, the Indian Cricket Board also gave an update on the fast bowler’s injury.

The Indian Cricket Board took to Twitter and wrote, “Jasprit Bumrah complained of back pain during India’s practice session on Tuesday. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him. He is ruled out of the first #INDvSA T20I.”

The 28-year-old, recently, made a comeback into the team in the second T20I against Australia after missing out from the Asia Cup due to back spasms. He spent around a month at National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru to recover, post which he was selected for the T20Is vs Australia. The seamer looked like a pale shadow of his former self upon his return as he was hammered for 50 runs in his four overs in the third T20I.

With the World Cup just 24 days away, Bumrah’s injury has come as a major blow for the Indian team management and fans. The Indian bowling attack struggled big-time at the death without the services of their death-bowling specialist during the Asia Cup. The ‘Men-in-blue’ failed to defend totals against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in consecutive games which led to them being eventually knocked out of the continental cup.
