Breaking! Assassination attempt on former Pakistan cricketer Imran Khan, one reported dead

Former Pakistan cricketer Imran Khan was shot at in a rally on Thursday. The video of assassination attempt is doing the rounds of twitter.

Imran Khan, former cricketer and Pakistan Prime Minister got injured today when an unidentified gunman fired during one of his rallies. According to local media, shots were fired on the container-mounted truck carrying Imran Khan in Pakistan’s Punjab province.

Videos of the incident has appeared in which it appears the gunman firing many rounds of fire following which everyone attending the rally could be seen ducking and fleeing the area.

Many sources have also claimed that the gunman has been shot dead. Imran Khan meanwhile is also reported to be out of critical condition with a bullet injury to his leg.

Imran Khan is the former skipper of the Pakistan cricket team having played 88 Tests and 175 ODIs for the national team. The bowling all-rounder took 362 wickets in Tests and 182 wickets in 175 ODI matches. Khan also made 3807 runs in Tests and 3709 runs in his ODI career.

He debuted against England at Edgbaston on June 3rd 1971 in a Test match. His ODI debut meanwhile came three years later at Trent Bridge in 1974. He played his last game for the Pakistan national team on 2nd January 1992 vs Sri Lanka at Iqbal Stadium.

Following his retirement, Khan joined politics and founded the party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in 1996. The former cricket player enjoyed massive popularity in Pakistan which took him to the pinnacle of Pakistan politics as he became the Prime Minister of Pakistan in August 2018.

Dissent in public as well as his party forced him to step down from the position in August 2022. Just a couple of days ago, Imran Khan had said in a rally, “Taking life is in the hands of Allah and I would be happy for when it happens.”
