India beat Hong Kong by 40 runs on Wednesday to clinch a win that take them to the next round in match 4 of the Asia Cup 2022. The Hong Kong captain Nizakat Khan won the toss and elected to bowl first. As expected, the Indian batters did not sweat it hard to get off to flyer albeit KL Rahul managed a less than a hundred strike rate.

Ayush Shukla provided the first breakthrough for Hong Kong as he dismissed the Indian skipper for 21 runs preventing further damage. To everyoneโ€™s surprise, the Hong Kong bowlers kept it tight for the Indian batters not letting them find gaps easily. India ended up at 44/1 at the end of six overs. Yasim Murtaza bowled it slow and made the run-getting tough for India as the batters struggled to get the timing right.

A six from the Karnataka batter in the ninth over shifted the momentum in favor of India. Mohammad Ghazanfar, however, removed KL Rahul, who was struggling the entire time he stayed at the crease. He went after scoring 36 off 39 balls.

The arrival of Suryakumar Yadav changed the fortunes of India. He looked in the mood to smash all the balls out of the park. He started with a bang smacking the first two deliveries for fours.

He carried on with his innings and put on a fifty-run partnership with Virat Kohli as the duo kept smashing sixes. A 26-run final over powered Indiaโ€™s total to 192 for the loss of two wickets. Skipper Nizakat Khan and Yasim Mortaza opened the innings for Hong Kong but Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh kept it tight in the first few overs.

Arshdeep Singh provided the initial breakthrough for India as he clinched the wicket of Yasim Mortaza. Babar Hayat came in and started finding maximums right from the start alongside Nizakat Khan.

The former found it easy to score boundaries on a pitch where Indian openers struggled to get going. Hong Kong looked strong after amassing 51 runs for the loss of two wickets in the powerplay.

The Hong Kong batters kept going slow and steady albeit the required run rate kept increasing rapidly. Hayat , eventually, fell for Jadeja as his wicket putting in team under pressure. Lack of intent from the rest of the batters ensured India clinched the win as they defeated Hong Kong by 40 runs to qualify for the Super Fours.
