One of the finest cricketers of the current generation, Babar Azam usually grabs the headlines for his batting exploits and record-breaking feats. The Pakistan skipper has also made a habit of winning hearts by showing compassion to counterparts who are going through difficult times. After Kane Williamson was ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) and the upcoming ODI World Cup, Babar showed his support for the New Zealand captain. And fans were reminded of his similar gesture to Virat Kohli when he was going through the worst patch of his life with the bat.

Williamson injured his right knee while fielding on the boundary line during the opening match of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings. While trying to save six runs for his team, the GT batter landed badly and injured his knee. He was immediately taken off the field by the medical staff and was ruled out of the tournament.

Williamson to go under knife in the coming weeks

The 32-year-old returned to New Zealand, and the Black Caps confirmed that Williamson will require surgery after scans revealed that he has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on his right knee. The surgery is expected to take place in the coming weeks, and he will need a lot of time to recover, effectively ruling him out of the 2023 ODI World Cup, which will be held in India in October-November.

While extending his support to the ace batter, Babar tweeted a heartwarming message, "Bounce back stronger. Get well soon Kane Williamson".

Babar's kind gesture comes days ahead of the New Zealand tour of Pakistan. This is not the first time Pakistan's star batter has been praised by cricket fans for performing a similar act to an opposition cricketer. When Kohli was going through the worst phase of his career, Babar had tweeted, "This too shall pass, stay strong," along with a photo of the Indian stalwart and himself, garnering heaps of praise from the cricketing fraternity for his sportsmanship.
