India outclassed New Zealand in the 2nd ODI at Raipur achieving a wicket win over the then number 1 ODI team in the world. The pitch at the 50th ODI venue in India brought about a lot of help for the bowlers which Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj made great use of as well.
Both breathed fire in the opening spell of the first inning bringing Kiwi batters to the knees with a score of 9/3 in 6.1 overs. Team India captain has now revealed that both wanted to continue bowling and make use of the swinging pitch.
Rohit Sharma however put a hold on the two bowlers’ zeal and asked to give the ball to other bowlers and share the workload.
"They (Shami and Siraj) were raring to keep bowling long spells but I reminded them that there is a Test series coming up as well (Australia at home), so we need to take care of ourselves as well. I need to step in and draw the line and say 'boss, there are other bowlers as well", he said.
Whatever we have asked of them, they have delivered- Rohit Sharma
The Indian captain was mightily impressed with the Indian bowlers’ performance against New Zealand in the second ODI. He said, "I thought these last five games, the bowlers have really stepped up. Whatever we have asked of them, they have delivered. Especially doing this in India. You can expect these performances away from India, but they have real skills. When we trained here yesterday in the night, it moved around, there was good carry. Which is why we wanted that challenge: 250 would have been quite challenging."
India has already won the series after winning the first and the second match against the Tom Latham-led Kiwi side. The two will clash in the 3rd and final match of the series on January 29th in Indore.
