Ryan Parag finally made headlines for his batting prowess as the East Zone all-rounder scored a sensational hundred in the seventh game of the Deodhar Trophy. EZone won the toss and elected to bat first on the decent track of Cricket Association Puducherry Ground 3 on Friday, July 28. However, North Zone bowlers delivered a magnificent performance, causing the opponent's batting collapse.

The EZone top-order batters had no answers for the NZone bowling attack, and they were reduced to 57/5 in 15.6 overs. Opener Abhimanyu Easwaran (10 off 16) and Utkarsh Singh (11 off 20) were dismissed in back-to-back overs. Virat Singh (2 off 7), Subhranshu Senapati (13 off 17), and skipper Saurabh Tiwary (16 off 30) also failed to put up any resistance.

When it looked like EZone would end up with a paltry total, Parag and Kumar Kushagra started the rescue operation. The duo steadied the ship by scoring at a rapid pace and took the team total to 292/6 from 57/5. Kushagra will be disappointed that he fell two runs short of his well-deserved century. The wicketkeeper batter was dismissed for 98 off 87 balls, comprising eight fours and four sixes, after forging a 253-run partnership with Parag.

Riyan Parag smashed his fourth List-A century

Parag followed him in the same over after scoring 131 off 102 balls, including five fours and eleven sixes. The Assam cricketer unleashed his power-hitting against leg-spinner Mayank Markande, slamming him for four sixes before completing his half-century in 38-ball. The 21-year-old continued the momentum in the second half of his innings and went on to smash his fourth List-A century in just 84 balls.

The dangerous partnership was broken at 292, but Manisankar Murasingh (25 off 14) and Shahbaz Ahmed (16* off 7) added the finishing touch to post a total of 337-8 in 50 overs. While Parag and Kushagra put up the best List A sixth-wicket partnership by an Indian pair in domestic cricket, the team produced the highest total in the competition thus far.

North Zone needed 338 runs to win but lost four top-order batters, including skipper Nitish Rana, when they reached 157 in 30 overs. They need 181 more runs to win from 20 overs.
