Chelsea suffered an embarrassing 4-1 defeat against Manchester United in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Thursday. The Red Devils climbed to third place and confirmed their place in next season’s Champions League. While the Blues are guaranteed a bottom-half finish for the first time since 1996, their boss Frank Lampard has the worst record of winning just two of his last 24 matches as a manager in the English Football League.

Since taking over as interim manager when Graham Potter was let go in April, Lampard has a 14% win ratio and fans will want him to try something else given his struggle in the league.

Man United were not at their best and gifted several chances to the visitors, who completely messed up them. However, Casemiro header in Christian Eriksen's free-kick early in the game and Anthony Martial's close rabge shot in the extra-time of the first half put them in command.

Bruno Fernandes won and scored a penalty in the 73rd minute, and substitute Marcus Rashford added a fourth in the 78th. Chelsea were done and dusted by Erik ten Hag's men by the time Joao Felix got a consolation in the dying minute.

It’s a bad year for the club: Lampard

Speaking after their defeat, the Blues manager said he was disappointed with the second-half performance. “We were the better football team in the first half, and then to be 2-0 down at that point sums up where we are at.

“I am disappointed with the second half. We have to be better than that. It’s a bad year for the club. The important thing is we get to the bottom of it. The club will move on in the summer and it needs a reboot," he added.

United will now focus on the FA Cup final against Manchester City, while Chelsea prepare for their clash with Newcastle. The Red Brigade are now behind to-placed Man City and Arsenal, with Lampard's side in 12th.

“This club belongs in the Champions League, but a lot of clubs were competing for this position, so it’s a massive performance to make it. We showed the winning attitude. On the counter-attack, we were really good," United boss Erik ten Hag told Sky Sports.
