Following the annual update that removes results from the 2019–20 season and takes into account all series played since May 2020, India has surpassed Australia to reclaim the top spot in the men's Test team rankings released by the governing body of International cricket.
India's rating points increased from 119 to 121 as a result of the removal of their loss to New Zealand during the year 2020 from the rankings, which rate series finished before May 2022 at 50% as well as succeeding series at 100%. As a result of their home series victories over Pakistan as well as New Zealand in 2019–20 not counting towards the rankings and their victory over England in 2021–22 having its weighting cut in half to 50%, Australia dropped from 122 down to 116 rating points.
Australia have been the top-ranked Test team since January 2022 and will face India in the Test Championship 2023 final at The Oval on June 7. With a 4-0 series victory over England, they surpassed New Zealand and took over the top spot.
The difference between England and the second-placed team has decreased from 13 to 2 rating points, primarily a result of recent steady play and the weighting of their 4-0 Ashes loss and 1-0 West Indies loss. England are still in third place even after their massive defeats on the hands of their arch enemies.
The other ranks are also identical, except Zimbabwe, which is now in 10th place, has improved five rating points. Ireland and Afghanistan have not yet participated in enough Test matches to be included in the rankings.
India has solidified their leadership in the men's T20I team standings, expanding their advantage over England in second place from six to eight points. To move up to third place, New Zealand passed South Africa and Pakistan. On May 10, following the current Pakistan-New Zealand series, the yearly adjustment to the ODI team rankings is scheduled to take place after that.
