In a big development, it has been learned that the cricket boards of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have backed Indian Cricket Board’s decision to move the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 out of Pakistan and stage the tournament in a neutral venue.

Earlier, the Indian Cricket Board had, categorically, stated that India will not go to Pakistan to play the tournament and it must be moved to a natural venue. Pakistan Cricket Board chief, Najam Sethi also came up with a hybrid model, in which India were allowed to play their matches at a neutral venue.

However, the Indian Cricket Board have made their stance pretty clear and with two other big boards supporting their decision, Pakistan might lose the hosting rights.

The secretary of the BCCI, who is also the president of the ACC, Jay Shah has also assured the broadcasters to compensate their losses suffered in case of Pakistan’s absence from the tournament by organizing a different series, involving India.

Earlier, Najam Sethi also warned India and ICC that if India won’t travel to Pakistan, then the Pakistan Cricket Team won’t travel to India to participate in the upcoming ODI World Cup, later this year.

“In case of India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan to compete in the Asia Cup, chances are there that the Pakistan government would not allow the Men in Green to cross the borders for their World Cup participation. In that case, cricket will be the ultimate sufferer,” Sethi said.

“There should be a middle way to solve problems that surely threaten the smooth hosting of ICC and ACC events. In case of India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, the government will not allow us to travel to India to figure in the World Cup matches,” he added.
