Veteran India speedster Ishant Sharma picks former Indian skipper Virat Kohli as the best captain he has played under over his career. Ishant has more or less played a longer format of games for India under Kohli, as he did not feature in white ball cricket for India after 2016 when Virat stepped down from Test match captaincy after India lost the Test series by 1-2 in January 2022, while starting in 2015.
It is pertinent to mention that the 6’4’ tall bowler made his debut in the 2007-08 series against Australia. In 105 Tests for India, Ishant picked up 311 wickets, with the best figure of 10/108 in the game. It is pertinent to mention that both Virat and Sharma have known each other for a long time and have shared journeys since U-17 as they were grown up in the same city, Delhi.
Earlier in an interview, Sharma recalled how star Indian batter Virat lost his father in his teenage years, and after that, he faced the toughest phase of his life. Kohli’s father, Prem Kohli, died in 2006 after suffering a heart attack. Despite his father's sudden demise, Virat, dealing with his personal tragedy, went on to bat for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy
My bowling revolution has happened under Virat Kohli's captaincy: Ishant Sharma
"Fast bowlers did well under Virat Kohli's Captaincy because he understands every bowler well, he backs everyone. He always looking to attack. He used to talk one on one and give them their role and backs and support every bowler. My bowling revolution happened under Virat Kohli's captaincy. He understands every bowler. He used to talk to each bowler one on one. He always said 'I know you are consistent but I want you to think out of the box and picked Wickets," said Sharma on Jio Cinema.
The 34-year-old also talked about which batter has impressed him the most in his Test cricket career, interestingly, he didn't pick Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Kane Williamson, or Steve Smith. Interestingly, Ishant picked Marnus Labuschagne as the most impressive batter of the present time. In the end, Kohli will be an essential part of the star Indian batting line-up in the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup 2023 under Rohit Sharma's leadership.
