Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK) registered a massive victory in the final against Nellai Royal Kings (NRK) by 104 runs to clinch the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2023 title. LKK completely outplayed NRK with their all-around performance with both bat and ball which helped them to clinch the trophy. LKK skipper Shahrukh Khan played a major role in his team’s victory as he ended up being the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 17 wickets which earned him a purple cap at the end of the season.

After winning the toss in the big final, Shahrukh decided to set a target for NRK. Batting first, LKK posted a total of 205 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, powered by the half-centuries by Suresh Kumar, U Mukilesh, and Atheeq Ur Rahman. In reply, NRK were bowled out for just 101 runs in 15 overs. Jhatavedh Subramanyan took 4 wickets by conceding 21 runs in his four overs.

LKK did not have a great start as they lost 2 wickets for 31 runs in 3.5 overs. After that, Suresh and Mukilesh took the innings further as they both put up a partnership of 71 runs for the third wicket. Suresh was the first batter to reach his fifty as he got out after scoring 57 runs off 33 balls with four fours and three sixes. After that, Mukilesh added 74 runs along with Rahman for the fifth wicket. Rahman got out after playing a quickfire knock of 50 runs off just 21 balls hitting eight fours and a maximum.

In the end, Mukilesh remained unbeaten on 51 runs off 40 balls with four fours and a six and LKK scored 200 plus runs. Along with Mukilesh, Ram Arvindh also remained unbeaten with 10 runs off four deliveries. For NRK, Sandeep Warrier and R Sonu Yadav shared 2-2 wickets each. While S Mohan Prasath put 1 in his bag.

NRK started losing wickets from the first over

Chasing the winning total, NRK lost wickets from the very first over. The scoreline went to 2 for 2 in 1.1 overs. After that, skipper Arun Karthik and Nidhish S Rajagopal put up a small partnership of 38 runs for the third wicket. Karthik turned out to be the top scorer for his team as he got out after scoring 27 runs off 14 balls with three fours and two sixes.

After that, there was not any big partnership between the NRK batters as they were bowled out with five overs still left for the match to be over. For LKK, along with Subramanyam, Shahrukh Khan scalped 3 wickets. While K Gowtham Thamarai Kannan, M Siddharth and M. Mohammed shared a wicket each.
