One of the finest batters in the history of cricket, Virat Kohli has raised the bar for all modern-day cricketers with his exceptional game, passion and fitness. The 34-year-old is playing his 500th international match and yet has the zest of a youngster. While Kohli's exquisite boundaries are a treat for the eyes, he is a headache for the opposition due to his rapid running between the wickets.

Even if Kohli does not find the gaps to hit boundaries, he will steal easy singles and convert singles to doubles to keep the scoreboard ticking. The same play we witnessed in the first innings of the second Test against West Indies in Trinidad on Thursday. The former India captain took more than 20 balls to open his account, but once he settled, he started scoring with singles, doubles and a few boundaries.

Kohli, unbeaten on 87 runs, was instrumental in bringing India back into the driver's seat at the stumps on Day 1. The right-handed batter hit eight fours and the remaining 55 runs were the result of brilliant runs between the wickets. A great example of this was when Kohli, near the conclusion of the day, noticing the prospect of a double, pushed for it with his partner Ravindra Jadeja and executed a successful dive to make his crease.

Joshua Da Silva reveals he is a huge fan of Virat Kohli

The most intriguing part of this, however, was the conversation between Kohli and West Indies wicket-keeper Joshua Da Silva that came thereafter. Just before the next ball after that double, the stump mic picked up a comment that could be heard: 'Stealing doubles since 2012'. Although it is unclear who, if either Da Silva or Kohli, said it, the initial impression would suggest that it was the Windies player.

Following this, some exchanges between the duo also surfaced on the internet, clearly showing that the wicketkeeper and his mother are huge fans of India's ace batter. "My mom told me she's coming to watch Virat Kohli bat, I couldn't believe it," Da Silva said. "Get your 100 Virat, I want you to score it," he encouraged Kohli to smash his 29th Test ton.

In the first Test, Kohli played brilliantly, hitting 76 runs to help India's massive innings and 141-run victory. The No. 4 batter needs 13 more runs to complete his 76th international century in his 500th international match when India resumes Day 2 on 288/4.
