KL Rahul was one of the main batters for India in ODIs from 2019 to 2022. The Karnataka-born cricketer is a versatile batter who batted in various positions and provided flexibility for the Indian team. The specialty about Rahul is that he can adapt to conditions and situations very well, when in full flow. When at his best, Rahul is a classy batter who is almost difficult to stop.
But the form of the Indian batter took a hit after an injury he sustained in early 2022. Post the injury, Rahul does not seem to be the same player he once was. There have been instances where the star batter’s knock cost games for the Indian team. Lately, the form of Rahul has been very bad, which has forced the Indian management to try different options.
But the latest injury of Rahul kept him out of the Indian team from the World Test Championship final against Australia, and the tour of the West Indies. The consistent batter has only made his comeback to the Indian side recently against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023 match. The clash against Pakistan has not finished yet, as rain forced the match to be moved to reserve day.
'We should not judge KL Rahul after each game' - Gautam Gambhir
So far, the right-handed batter has scored 20 runs in 34 balls against Pakistan. The form of Rahul has not been very impressive over the years. Speaking about the same, the mentor of LSG, Gautam Gambhir, who has worked with Rahul in the Indian Premier League, felt that the wicketkeeper batter should not be judged by his current form.
In a show in Star Sports, Gambhir spoke about the return of KL Rahul to the Indian side and said “We should not judge KL Rahul after each game. He is coming after a long layoff. If he is in the scheme of things for the World Cup, he should play every match." The backing of Gambhir is a confidence booster for Rahul, who will be hoping for a comeback in the Indian team.
Here's how the fans reacted to the statement of Gambhir:
