After losing the 2021-23 World Test Championship final against Australia on Sunday, India is all set to take on the next challenge as they will tour West Indies for two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is. With this, India will also start their campaign for the World Test Championship cycle 2023-25. However, it is likely that we can some changes in the Indian squad after a disappointing loss in the WTC final.

Skipper Rohit Sharma is set to lead the side despite the failure in the WTC final. However, according to a report by Cricbuzz, some players are expected to be rested or dropped. The selectors seem to be cautious about experimenting and prioritizing consistent performances. Players like Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli and Shubman are likely to retain their position in the Test squad. However, there are a few questions raised about the future of Cheteshwar Pujara.

Pujara has been India's regular number three in the longest format over the years. However, his form has been concerning over the past couple of years. Since 2020, the 35-year-old has scored only a single century in 28 Tests with an underwhelming average of 29.69. He also failed to make an impact on the WTC final as he scored 14 and 27 runs in both innings.

After that, according to the reports, Yashasvi Jaiswal seems to be potential for Pujara in the Test squad and selectors may consider him for the upcoming West Indies tour. The 21-year-old had a great outing in IPL 2023 for Rajasthan Royals as he amassed 625 runs from 14 matches and also won the Emerging Player of the Season.

Siraj and Shami could also be given a rest against West Indies

Apart from that, the selectors are also considering giving rest to the pacer Mohammed Shami after the perception that he has been overworked, having bowled extensively since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, he can be seen in the ODI series looking at the upcoming ODI World Cup in India.

Apart from Shami, another Indian pace spearhead, Mohammed Siraj is also likely to be given a rest to ensure that he remains fit for the upcoming Asia Cup World Cup in India. Now, pacers like Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malikk are likely to be included in the squad against the Windies.
