India lingered at 48/3 in the first Test against Bangladesh and looked on course for another disappointing outcome in the neighbouring country. The KL Rahul-led team however managed to get past 400 all thanks to contributions from the middle order as well as the bowlers.

Ravichandran Ashwin is no stranger to coming good with the bat and that’s what he did at Zuhur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. Coming at 278/6, Ashwin held the innings from one side and came up with an important half-century to take India’s score close to 400.

The bowling all-rounder made 58 runs in 113 balls with the help of 2 fours and 2 sixes. The right-hand batter played the same bowlers who had troubled India’s top order with utmost ease. When he got out, India were comfortably moving towards 400 (385/8).

With this half-century, Ashwin takes his tally to 13 half-centuries in Test. Additionally, the 36-year-old has 5 Test centuries as well, making him one of the best Test all-rounders. With records like that it is no surprise that Ashwin ranks second in the current all-rounders ranking for Test.

With 335 rating points, Ashwin trails just Ravindra Jadeja in the list, keeping the likes of Ben Stokes, Shakib Al Hasan, Jason Holder and Mitchell Starc behind him. Following Ashwin's incredible fifty against Bangladesh, many cricket fans were impressed with his batting in Test matches.

Here's how Twitter reacted to Ravi Ashwin's innings against Bangladesh.

As for the rest of the batters, it was again Cheteshwar Pujara who held the innings for India and brought them out of a dangerous situation. The right-hand batter made 90 runs in 203 deliveries alongside Shreyas Iyer who also played responsibly to add 86 runs in 192 balls.

Virat Kohli failed again to make a significant impact on the match as he got out at just 1 run in the 20th over of the match. It was Kuldeep Yadav who partnered with Ashwin to take India closer to 400. Yadav was out at 40 and failed to bring out what would've been an incredibly fifty. India the end, India managed to post 404 runs on the board.
