Team India is toiling hard in a bid to win the upcoming 20-20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in Australia. India showcased a disappointing performance in the last edition of the T20 World Cup held last year. They crashed out of the tournament in the group stage itself.
Since then, India have been experimenting on all fronts in a bid to go into the tournament with the best possible team. There are reports that the squad selected for the Asia Cup will also be the same squad that will play the T20 World Cup.
With the tournament just months away, we have predicted India’s best playing XI for the 20-20 World Cup 2022.
1) Rohit Sharma (Captain):
Skipper Rohit Sharma should open the innings in the perennial tournament. He will lead the side for the first time in an ICC event and would be keen to help India win the tournament. He will be tasked to give the team a rock solid start in the powerplay.
2) KL Rahul:
If reports are to be believed then KL Rahul will be fit to play the Asia Cup 2022. Having missed out on a lot of opportunities, he’ll make the best use of tournament to announce his comeback. He would be the best number two for India at the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul get along quite well and this opening partnership can be dangerous for the opposition.
3) Virat Kohli:
The Indian legend and former skipper should take his slot despite lean form with the bat. The number three slot is his forte in the white-ball arena. The batter will look to emulate the 2016 version of his. The Asia Cup 2022 would be an opportunity for him to come back to form.
4) Suryakumar Yadav:
The batter has been in tremendous form of late and is ranking second in the ICC T20I rankings. Suryakumar Yadav has a strike rate of 175 in the T20 internationals. He will be the ‘X-Factor’ for India in the 20-20 World Cup 2022. India could post daunting totals on the board he if stays till the end.
5) Rishabh Pant (Wicket-Keeper):
The number five slot is likely to be a tie between Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik. However, the former gets an edge due to power-hitting abilities. Pant has also improved his keeping skills of late. Pant doesn't have great numbers in T20Is but the management is likely to back him for the number five slot.
6) Hardik Pandya:
Hardik Pandya, the man in the form, will be the perfect allrounder for India. His bowling was a concern for a long time. However, he has performed admirably with both bat and ball since coming back from injury. India will make the best use of his services. He’ll be the perfect number six for India at the 20-20 World Cup 2022. He might well be the vice-captain for India.
7) Ravindra Jadeja:
Ravindra Jadeja's presence will add more stability to the line-up. He will provide four overs and can score crucial cameos with the bat if needed in the end. Jadeja can score quickfire runs, can field and can pick crucial wickets as well. The number seven slot will be reserved for him at the 20-20 World Cup this year.
8) Yuzvendra Chahal:
The best white-ball leg spinner for India right now is Yuzvendra Chahal. He has all it takes to be the number one spinner in the side. Given the kind of form he is in, Chahal should make his way into the eleven for the T20 World Cup. Yuzvendra Chahal steals the number eight spot for the 20-20 World Cup 2022.
9) Bhuvneshwar Kumar:
Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s ability to swing the ball in the powerplay will be one of the major reasons for fitting him into the playing XI. In the first T20I against West Indies, Kumar conceded only 11 runs off the 2 overs that he bowled and picked up one scalp. In the second match, he held an economy of 6. His current form with the ball inspires a lot of confidence. The flat pitches in Australia might be threatening, but the experienced pacer should shine.
10) Jasprit Bumrah:
No surprises here! Jasprit Bumrah is a constant and he should make it into the playing XI. He will be tasked to lead the fast bowling department. The pace spearhead was rested for the T20I against West Indies. He will be making his comeback in the Asia Cup 2022.
11) Arshdeep Singh:
Given how he has announced his arrival in international cricket, Arshdeep Singh might get an edge over Harshal Patel in the playing XI. He was fantastic against England on his debut. The left-arm pacer has impressed with his performances in the T20Is against West Indies as well. He has picked up four scalps in three matches. He is expected to be part of playing XI for India in the 20-20 World Cup 2022.
