NorthEast United and Bengaluru FC faced off each other on October 8, Saturday at Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru in the onging Indian Super League. With regards to the match, the Blues thumped the visiting team with a scoreline of 1-0 while the Highlanders’ coach Marco Balbul was sent off for complaining about the referee’s decision.
Post the conclusion of the match, in the press-match conference, Bengaluru FC’s coach Simon Grayson said that he was never skeptical of the referees and will never be in the future as well. The coach also opined on playing in front of fans after a long time in the Indian Super League and said that he enjoyed the atmosphere to the fullest.
“Great atmosphere from our supporters. Yeah, it had everything; the game. There was no shortage of entertainment, incidents, opportunities. Personally, as a coach I would like an easier game (chuckles); a little bit easier of a ride. But yeah, good game,” said the Blues’ coach Grayson in the post-match press conference.
“I thought we started the game really well and created some good chances. (We) missed a couple of decent chances that you would normally expect us to score. But NorthEast looked a good team. (They) hit us on the counter-attack quite a few times, and kept asking questions but I think our supporters got us through the game,” said the coach further.
We didn’t know a lot about NorthEast United FC: Grayson
Further, Grayson said that he and his team did not have much of an idea about Balbul and his team as they had a new setup. However, the Blues’ coach was happy with the clean sheet and the win which saw them gaining initial momentum in the top-flight Indian tournament.
“They have some pacey players who can ask questions. But we kept the clean sheet and that’s all that matters. We didn’t know a lot about them since they have a new coach and new players. I thought NorthEast (United) impressed a lot of people tonight and gave us a really tough game,” said the coach further.
