Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has confirmed that no one has approached him for the post of Team India's chief selector. Fake reports emerged on Thursday, June 22, that Sehwag was in the race to become the next chief selector. However, the right-handed batter denied the rumours, saying that the Indian Cricket Board did not approach him for the role.

The post has been vacant since Chetan Sharma resigned following the infamous sting operation in which the former chairman leaked top secrets about the Indian cricket team. Four months after the drama, the governing body of Indian cricket started searching for the right candidate for the high-responsibility position. Sehwag's name emerged as the top contender for the position.

The destructive opener, however, broke his silence on the matter on Friday, as a TOI report stated that it had approached the cricketer to find out whether any offer had been made to him, to which he replied, "No".

A board official said Sehwag had been approached for India's head coach role

Meanwhile, an unidentified board member informed PTI that Sehwag was contacted for the head coach role while the Committee of Administrators (CoA) was in charge. Sehwag is an analyst on various platforms and earns a handsome amount from promotional activities. The source said that it is unlikely the 44-year-old will apply for the position due to the lower package.

"During CoA's time, Viru was asked to apply for the head coach's job, and then it went to Anil Kumble. It is unlikely he will apply himself, and also, the pay package isn't something that will be financially viable for someone of his stature," the board official had told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Meanwhile, following Sharma's resignation, former Indian batter Shiv Sunder Das has been appointed as the interim chief selector. S Sharath (south), Subroto Banerjee (central), and Salil Ankola (west) are the other members of the panel.
