Ever since the inception of the T20 format in the sport, the game has moved more towards the batters and taken away freedom from the bowlers. The fast nature of the game has impacted the other formats too. In ODIs, two new ball rule was introduced for the batters to have more fun. In Tests, batters are taking an aggressive route. Some boards are helping the batters by making flat pitches. Everything is designed in such a way that the bowlers have become mere bowling machines in cricket. Bowlers cease to exist in cricket, especially in limited-overs internationals.

Batters have all the freedom in the world to express themselves and succeed in cricket. But the bowlers cannot show their best skills with the ball, especially with the pre-defined constraints ahead of them. To change things, at least at the domestic level, the Indian governing council has come up with a new idea. The board is set to implement a new rule where the bowlers will be allowed to bowl two bouncers in an over. At the moment, only one bouncer is allowed in an over in international cricket.

Change of rules in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

“The BCCI has decided to introduce two bouncers per over in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to balance the contest between bat and ball. The teams can use the Impact Player at any time during the match. In the previous season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, a team could only use the Impact Player before the 14th over of an innings. The teams will have to select their playing XI along with 4 substitute players before the toss.” said the BCCI in a statement.

Along with the two-bouncer per over rule, the Indian governing council has decided to amend another rule in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In the previous season of the tournament, the board had implemented the usage of an impact player in the XI in the first 13 overs of a match. But with the new amendment, the teams can use their impact players at any stage of the game.
