Talking about the match, Perth Scorchers decided to field first at Sydney Show Ground Stadium after winning the toss. Sydney Thunders saw a collapse in the powerplay as they lost six out of top seven batters on single digit scores. Oliver Davies, however, showed resistance as he kept the scoreboard ticking.

Half of the side went back to the hut for just 76 runs on the board. However, a hard fought 52-run knock off 36 balls from Oliver Davies meant the Sydney Thunder compiled a score of 111 at the end of the first innings.

It was a combined bowling effort from the Scorchers, which led to the Thunder's undoing. The likes of Payne, Morris, and Kelly picked two wickets each, while Andrew Tye returned with 3 scalps. In reply, Perth Scorchers chased down the score in just the total in 12.5 overs.
