Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has filed an FIR with the Mumbai Crime Branch after his name, photo, and voice were used in "fake advertisements" on the internet. The SRT Sports Management (SRTSM) organisation noticed impersonating Tendulkar's attributes in an unauthorised manner to deceive consumers. According to reports, Mumbai Police Cyber Cell has registered a case against unidentified people under sections 426, 465 and 500 of the IPC.

On Saturday, ANI shared a picture of Tendulkar addressing the media at the Mumbai Crime Branch office. The news agency also confirmed the Master Blaster's police complaint on its Twitter account.

Meanwhile, a parody version of Tendulkar's video showing how he cleans his cricket bat had gone viral on social media. Someone dubbed the cricketer's voice saying, "Ae vedya, bat ka grip nikalke na, seedha bat teri gaand mein dal," which translates to, "remove the grip of the bat and put it in your butt."

Many fans thought Tendulkar's recent filing of a police case for impersonating him using his photo and voice was in response to this viral video. However, it was discovered that an online commercial for a drug/medicine company had been using the 2011 World Cup winner's name, photo, and voice to endorse its product on the internet.

The SRT Sports Management statement reads:

Earlier, Tendulkar had released an official statement in this regard through his organisation (SRTSM). The statement urged people to be alert and avoid being scammed online, well as to report any false adverts they come across.

"We have noticed that there have been attempts to impersonate Sachin Tendulkar's attributes in an unauthorized manner, for selling products and services not associated with him. These are being done with a deliberate and malicious intention of misleading gullible citizens to buy unauthorised products and services online.

"We have lodged an official complaint with the Cyber Cell department and have highlighted these to social media platforms where such misleading advertisements are being broadcast. As digital technologies scale and empower more people, we as a society need to work together on ensuring people get access to authentic products, services, and information."
