Australia batter Usman Khawaja explained that his maiden Test century in England occurred as a result of constant fan taunting, which drove him to an 'emotional' performance at Edgbaston during the opening Test of the Ashes.

After England declared their innings at 393/8, Khawaja initiated Australia's comeback. At the end of Day 2, Australia had reached 311/5, thanks to Khawaja's 126-run knock without losing his wicket.

I guess it was just a bit more emotional than normal: Usman Khawaja

Usman Khawaja said, “When I’m getting sprayed (barracked) by the crowd as I’m walking out there today and as I’m going to nets being told that I can’t score runs in England…I guess it was just a bit more emotional than normal.”

The Australian opener stated during the post-match press conference, that Stuart Broad rolled his stumps over after Khawaja reached 112, but the delivery was ruled out for a no-ball. It would be one of six no-balls Broad bowled in his whole spell on the day.

He attended the conference with his daughter Aisha and stated that the stresses of playing in England during the Ashes were much alleviated because his family was present. Khawaja averaged a poor 19.60 in England before to his magnificent century on Saturday.

He stated, "These young ones keep me young and make me realise that there’s a lot to life and a lot of good stuff after I stop playing cricket. So for me, it’s just about enjoying it. My wife has been awesome to me, she’s been my rock throughout my career."

"That perspective makes it a lot easier for me to go out there and just enjoy it as much as I can, whether I get a duck or a hundred. Every Test match is a bonus for me because we thought my career was over. In my head, it’s the last (Ashes) tour I’ll be on, unless I pull a Jimmy Anderson and come back when I’m 41."

Australia are 311/5 with Usman Khawaja still unbeaten on 126, he's batting with Alex Carey who is on 52 off 80 balls.
