Indian batter Virat Kohli has been brimming with confidence post his break from competitive cricket, ahead of the Asia Cup 2022. Prior to the continental tournament, Kohli was going through one of the worst phases of his international career, averaging around 25 across formats with the bat and going through a streak of over 1000 days without a century.
For the unversed, Kohli ended up as the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament and the highest run-scorer for India with 276 runs. The veteran batter also scored his 71st international hundred against Afghanistan in the Super 4s round to match Ricky Ponting’s record.
However, Pakistan cricket board’s (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja said to Samaa TV that the batter’s century overshadowed India’s poor run in the continental tournament. “India should then have been severely criticised for not reaching the final. But that is not what their fans and media do. I'll tell you...when Virat Kohli scored a century against Afghanistan, they forgot their entire Asia Cup. Will we ever do that?” Raja said on Samaa TV.
There was absolutely no need to take a dig: Salman Butt
Raja’s comments did not go well with former Pakistani cricketer Butt. The 38-year-old slammed the PCB chief on his YouTube channel and said that there was no need to take a dig at the Indian legend. Emphasizing Kohli’s potential, Butt opined that PCB’s chairman must have refrained from coming up with such words.
“There was absolutely no need to take a dig. Aap relevant example bhi nahi de sakte. Vo duniya ka top player, he's only the second (third) man in entire history of cricket jiske 70+ hundred hai (You can't even give relevant examples. He's only the third man in cricket history with 70+ international tons),” Butt said on his YouTube channel.
“Beherhaal, I don't know.. he is frustrated. Maybe he's got some news, jo baakiyon ko kuch dino baad milegi. Unhone aur bhi kayi baat ki hai jinka koi mettle ya logic nahi tha. Bas satehi baatein ki hain ( He is frustrated. Maybe he has some news that others will get a few days later. He said a lot of others thing that didn't have any logic. It's just superficial talks),” said the former cricketer further.
